I’m Off!
Nina was bored, as bored as can be.
She’d been drawing for ages, it was hours ‘till tea.
The TV, the books and the toys were the same,
It was time now to play her most favourite game…
“I’M OFF,” Nina squealed as she ran in the kitchen,
Past Daddy who was halfway through putting a dish in
The sink, which was full of suds, bubbles, and more.
Nina ran past so fast the suds slid to the floor.
Before Daddy could catch her, she’d reached the next door.
“I’M OFF,” Nina yelled from the dining room now.
Mummy laughed, put her book down, reached out but somehow
Nina scrambled right under the table with glee.
“I’m fastest! I’m quickest! You’ll never catch me!”
As she ran to the next room, she giggled “Tee hee!”
Mummy said “Please be careful.” Daddy said “Take it slow.”
“Enough rushing around, love, maybe go watch a show.”
“Or go colour with Dolly?” but Nina said “NO!”
“I’M OFF,” from the Living room, Nina exclaimed.
Her brother was in there. He was playing a game,
With a plumber and a princess in a faraway land.
He did not try to stop her. He did not raise a hand.
This was not going quite as young Nina had planned.
“I’M OFF,” Nina went up to her bedroom next.
Her cat woke up crossly. He was really quite vexed.
He’d been snuggling on the end of her bed all the day.
He was definitely not in the mood for a play.
Nina sighed, no fun here, shut the door, went away.
“I’M OFF,” Nina called from the garden patio,
Her foot caught on a rock and she stumbled. Oh no!
She tumbled and fumbled and fell on the ground.
Her elbow had scratches, her knee started to pound.
Her lips they did wobble, hands shook and she frowned.
“I’M HURT!” Nina cried, holding out her sore knee.
Out came Daddy, out came Mummy, came her brother to see,
They brought medicine, and plasters, and a bottle of squash.
Daddy cuddled while Mummy gave Nina’s knee a quick wash.
Nina sobbed and she sniffled and was sad. Oh gosh!
Nina’s tears went away and she started to feel better,
Her knee no longer stung, it no longer upset her.
She could draw, she could read, watch TV but no way!
There was only one game that she wanted to play…
“I’M OFF!”
